The top part of the screen shows the location you are in, the middle part has all the commands like pick up, use and turn off. The game uses the first SCUMM engine that was created for maniac mansion and it allows you to piece together sentences with a point and click interface. The story has Zak traveling across the entire globe and even beyond when the time is right. Altough most of this seems like a lot of nonsense the meaning will become clear as you progress throughout the game. The intro shows Zak having a dream about aliens, a face on mars, a woman and a mask chasing him around. This time he has to follow up on a rumor about a vicious two-headed squirrel in Seattle and while he's there he also has to take some pictures of the place where the first UFO siting was made 50 years ago. Zak is a reporter for a tabloid paper and as such he always has to come up with the most ridiculous stories to print in the paper. You get to discover secrets like: Where was Atlantis? What was the Stonehenge really used for? What happened to »The King«?, and even, what do Yaks really think and do in their free time? You get to explore different locations around the globe, and you even get to be the first man on Mars (where you're greeted by two women).Īll in all I'd give this game 5 out of 5, because of its great plot line and puzzles, as well as its great playability (before point-and-click you had to type every single word in the game). After bringing back a priceless artifact (don't get caught with it, or off you go, to the brain emptier) you get to control not only Zak, but also three lovely ladies (a dream of every man)! Two of them await you on Mars, where they went instead of their planed trip to the coast. Both the squirrel and the aliens are real and it is up to you to stop them (not the squirrel the aliens - who want to make us all stupider than they are - not a really hard task I suppose).Īnd now, the fun part begins. This is the second of the amazing Lucas' series of the scumm system adventure games (and my very first click and point adventure game - in my view, that makes it my first real adventure). Between the four characters (all of which you control), you can destroy the dumbifying devices and save the earth. After finding a magic crystal (or some sort of crystal), Zak manages to get the help of Anthropologist, Annie, and her friends, Melissa and Leslie.
Zak must stop this, but he can't do it alone. Based upon a psychadelic dream, Zak one day realizes that something is wrong - Space Aliens are dumbifying the general public through the telephone system. Zak McKracken is a tabloid reporter (and not a very good one at that).
